SPEED READ v1.40 February 28, 1994
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
New features include:
* Cross-post new messages, replies, carbon copies and forwarded messages
can to any active BBS/conference.
* Folders allow you to group and store similar messages in a common place,
irrespective of their origin. Folders are easily accessible from any
BBS. Just like any other conference, messages in a folder can be replied
to, printed, saved, deleted, etc. Folders are ideal for long
term-storage of certain topical messages and are easily moved to and from
a floppy disk.
* The Quote feature allows you to mark text from various messages and
include the quotes in your next reply. When combined with the new view
mode it provides a powerful tool for collecting quotes from different
messages, in different conferences, BBSs and folders from within SPEED or
most external editors.
* View mode allows running multiple sessions of SPEED. This feature
provides a means to access all messages and folders at any time. When
combined with the new Quoting feature it provides a powerful tool for
collecting quotes from different messages, in different conferences, BBSs
and folders from within SPEED or most external editors.
* BBS specific settings let you select a default tagfile, Fido mode,
maximum number of lines in a message and user signature by BBS.
* Direct support for 25/28/43/50 line mode. SPEED can be set to auto
detect nonstandard modes such as 33, 36 and 60 line mode.
* Bulk marking commands allow individual messages or messages selected
based on their To, From or Subject to be marked for group processing.
Group actions include saving messages to a text file or a folder,
printing the messages, marking the messages as read, unread, keep, kill
or unflagged.
* An address book helps you stay in touch with your favorite BBS users.
There are fields for name, address, phone number, conference/area, BBS,
routing information, and comments.
* Mailing lists allow you define a list of people to whom you want to send
a common message.
* Much more memory efficient. This includes an overlaid SR.EXE that
provides two command line switches /XMS and /EMS to swap overlays to
extended and expanded memory. Also many more screens are dynamically
loaded from SCREEN.SCR further reducing the amount of memory used.
* A First Line field in the message header, with an associated picklist,
simplifies routing for networks such as Internet, RIME, Fido, etc.
* An Auto Signature option when toggled "On" will append the contents of
SIG.SR to each message. This feature is also selectable on a global,
conference and BBS basis.
* Enhanced Select BBS Window that displays the number of replies, total
number of messages and number of unread messages for each BBS, along with
grand totals for replies, total messages, and unread messages.
* Added limited mouse support. /MOUSE command line switch enables the
mouse.
* Support for [ANSI50] and [ANSI43] along with auto-stitching of split
ANSIs.
* Conference specific setting for maximum number of lines in a reply.
* From the Index screen messages can be marked as Keep, Kill or Bulk
marked. A special flag is displayed denoting the message's status.
* NDX files are automatically generated if they are not included in the QWK
packet.
* The Personal Message toggle allows you to turn off the Personal
conference or import messages addressed to you or import messages
addressed to and from you into the Personal conference.
* A Toggle to sort the BBS list in alphabetical order and a default sort
option for the conference listing. The conference list can be sorted by
conference number, unread messages, total messages, conference name and
the number of messages in the last packet. The conference list can also
be sorted on the fly while viewing it.
* A hot-key to execute DOS commands.
* Redirect stolen taglines to any tag file and the ability to steal routing
information just like a tagline.
* Command to build a .REP packet without exiting SPEED. This allows you to
upload replies without leaving SPEED or build a .REP packet as a backup
when using the RAM disk for replies.
* The ability to direct a reply to a non-existent conference.
* A new README mode. The /r command line switch starts SPEED in a
hyper-text README mode. This provides you with up to the minute
information on J.E. Smith Software, product offerings, future
developments and other important information.
* A new automated order form (ORDER.EXE) makes completing the registration
form much easier. It can be run directly from DOS, from the README mode
or in SPEED READ (unregistered mode) by pressing ALT-O.
* New unregistered mode that is less intrusive for the first 50 days.
>>NOTE DAYS ARE RETROACTIVE TO FIRST TIME SPEED WAS INSTALLED<<
* Plus many more, too numerous to mention here...
